Obituary

Lynette Traxler Mead, 78, of Pensacola passed away Friday, May 22, 2009. Lynn was born in St. Augustine, FL on March 19, 1931 to Gale and Winifred Traxler. She graduated from Port St. Joe High School in 1949, where she was very active in sports playing softball, basketball and was the Head Cheerleader. She was voted Ms. St. Joe High School in 1949. After high school, Lynn attended and graduated with a Bachelor's Science Degree in Education from Florida State University in 1954. At Florida State, she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and remained an active Seminole Booster. In 1956 she was selected as a Princess in DeLuna's Court. In 1960, she and her husband Dick founded Mead Outdoor Advertising. She was an Avon Representative for 30 years. Lynn taught 30 years for the Escambia County School System retiring in 1997, and was selected as the Escambia County Teacher of the Year in 1976. She finished her teaching career, as a 7th grade Math Teacher at Workman Middle School. (Mean Mrs. Mead)!!! Lynn and Dick enjoyed traveling four or five times a year, especially to resorts in the Southeast that specialized in golfing activities. Lynn spent a lot of time with her granddaughters activities in music and sporting events. Her parents Gale and Winifred Traxler, and brother J. Gale Traxler, Jr. preceded her in death. Her loving husband of 51.5 years Dick; son Britt (Tamara); daughter Susan Bonsignore (Bob); granddaughters Tina and Nikki Bonsignore; and one brother, Dexter Traxler (Doreen) of Seneca SC survive Lynn. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00pm Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am Thursday, May 28, 2009 at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, with Rev. Fr. Roberts Graves officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Retired Teachers Lunch Bunch. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Covenant Hospice, 5041 North 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32504, or to Pink Ribbon Tennis, 2329 Colonial Circle, Pensacola, FL 32514, or to a charity of your choice. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
