Obituary

Lynn Ora Chapman Overman passed from her Pensacola home to her heavenly home to be with her Lord February 16, 2012. She was being held by her loving children, but is now with her beloved husband and best friend, Charles Henry Overman, Jr. and her cherished father, Otis Chapman, whom she lost when she was only four years old. She was born in Pace, Florida, March 23, 1916 before women had the right to vote and took that gained right very seriously. She was reared in Milton, Florida, where she met her high school sweetheart/husband to-be who became a second generation University of Florida graduate. She became an avid Gator Fan and enjoyed attending UF football games, including Fall 2011. She graduated from Florida State University beginning when it was Florida State College for Women. (Sh-h-h-h, as a die-hard gator fan, she kept this a secret!) She happily married Charles Henry June 12, 1937, and they moved to Pensacola where they lived out their lives; he preceded her in death by nineteen and a half years. They loved Pensacola, and she served as Pensacolas First Lady when Dad was Mayor of Pensacola in the 1960s. She was a loving mother to daughters, Mary Anne Overman (Bryant) Cramer, Lynnette Overman (Keith) Edwards; son, Charles H. (Barbara) Overman, III; chosen son/nephew, Donald Otis Knapp; chosen daughter, Gail Robinson. She was a very sweet presence in the lives of her seven grandchildren, four (soon to be five) great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was an ardent, faithful member of First Baptist Church Pensacola for nearly seventy years, making lifelong friends, teaching, leading childrens choirs, singing in choirs, bringing flowers from her garden to grace the welcome desk, and supporting her deacon husband. She was a public school teacher for thirty two years teaching and caring for Gods children. She was active in EEA and later in retired teacher groups. She was a happy gardener, proud of her many flowers. She loved to read and enjoyed inspiring young people into becoming readers. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Pensacola, 500 N. Palafox Street, Pensacola, FL 32501, Tel: (850) 433-5631, conducted by Dr. Barry Howard with organist Dr. Lynne Lauderdale and the Singing Senior Choir. Her family expresses very special thanks to Mothers doctor, Sangeeta Patil, M.D., Mothers many medical specialists, the staffs of Baptist Hospital, Haven of Our Lady of Peace, Senior Home Care, and Covenant Hospice, especially LPN Doug Lantz, for their thoughtful care of her. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to any of the programs of First Baptist Church, Pensacola, FL. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may also be shared at HarperMorrisMemorialChapel.com.
