Obituary

Mable Ruth Holton, 99, of Gulf Breeze passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016, at her home. The youngest daughter of Gussie and Julius Bush, she was born on March 2, 1917, in Quitman, GA. Mable graduated from Quitman High School in 1933 and began working at the family-owned grocery store where she met her husband, Barney Holton. They were married on June 2, 1940.

In the 1950's Mable entered sales work with Tupperware. In 1959 the family moved to Gulf Breeze where they became Tupperware Distributors for NW Florida and Southern Alabama.

In 1969 Mable began working with AAA Auto Club where she excelled. Although she was reluctant to talk about her outstanding sales records and awards, the hard work always brought her recognition.  At the age of 80, Mable won the 1997 "Here's Looking at You" Senior Worker for Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, NW FL Area Council on Aging. At the time of her retirement in 2004 (age 87) from AAA, she had enrolled over 50,000 members.  When she was 91, Mable was the first employee to be inducted into AAA Auto Club South's Hall of Fame.  Her belief was to live honestly and do what's right.

Mable was a member of the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and her dogs; most of all she loved her family and life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Barney in 1966, and sister, Mary Lou Collins.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Hal George, who cared for her for many years; granddaughter, Traci (Stephen) Pitre; grandson, Bobby (Mindy) Clayton; nephews, RJ and Ronnie Collins; and niece, Elaine Bembry. Her greatest joy was her 6 great-grandchildren, Zas, Zea and Zinca Pitre & Brock, Brooks and Lilly Clayton.

A special thank you to Gloria Cook, Renee Stanberry, and Dianne Higgins for their exemplary care provided to Miss Mable for many years.

Visitation will be held 12:00noon until a celebration of Mable's life at 1:00pm Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd, Pensacola, FL with Senior Pastor, Dan Morris, officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
