Our dear mother, Madalyn Burgess Cobb, 93, died on Monday, January 15, 2024. She had been in decline from dementia for the last five years.

Madalyn was born on August 17, 1930, in Pensacola, FL at the original Sacred Heart Hospital. She was the daughter of Jasamyn and Joe Burgess and married to Jack Cobb for 53 years, all of whom preceded her in death.

Madalyn was a graduate of Pensacola High School where she later returned to teach senior English and English Literature for 13 years after receiving her degrees in English and Speech from Florida State University in 1951. She was in the first graduating class after the school became coed.

Our mother's life was devoted to her family's needs, and her favorite things were to bake a pound cake, write a letter, or tend to her 18 box turtles. She also loved cats and never turned away a stray that stopped by for a meal. Madalyn will be remembered for her selflessness throughout her life and having a genuine empathy toward people and the challenges or sorrows they faced.

She is survived by three children who were the joy of her life, Jeanna Cunningham (Oliver) of Atlanta, GA, Burgess Cobb, and Claire Springfield both of Tampa, FL; a few cousins; as well as her cats, Harrison and Whitney.

Graveside service will be held 11:00am Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Bayview Memorial Park.
