Obituary

Margaret Lee Blue, 67, passed away peacefully in the presence of family in Pensacola, FL on February 4, 2021 after enduring a three-year battle with ovarian and breast cancer.

She is survived by three children, Jeanette Tuminaro, Rebecca Woodson (spouse John Woodson), and Robert Blue as well as six grandchildren: Alexandria, Nathan, Cameron, Katrina, Timothy, and LeighAnne Woodson. She is also survived by four siblings: Michael, Cynthia, Kenneth, and Theresa. She was born in Baltimore, MD on June 27, 1953 to Nancy Connor and Ralph Lee, both of whose deaths preceded hers. She grew up in Atlanta, GA with her elder sister, Christine, under the care of her aunt, Louise Lee, and uncle, Edward "Abie" Robertson, whose deaths also preceded hers. She had one additional daughter, Catherine, who succumbed to SIDS in infancy in 1975.

Margaret lived a life full of compassion. After graduating Henry Grady High School in Atlanta, GA with the class of 1971, she was unable to afford college, so decided to become a practical nurse. She earned a certification in practical nursing from Atlanta Area Technical School in 1973 and was soon licensed in Georgia as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She worked at Doctors Hospital in Tucker, GA as a floor nurse and in the office of Dr. S. S. Kutner as an ophthalmologist assistant before she married Joel Blue in December 1974.

Upon becoming married, Joel was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford in England, so Margaret put her career on hold to focus on family. She had already adopted a daughter Jeanette in 1973 (born in 1971 to Christine Lee and Jim Hamilton), who became Jeanette Blue upon Margaret's marriage to Joel. In 1975, Catherine (Cathy) Blue was born but passed away from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) later the same year. Rebecca Blue and Robert Blue were born in 1977 and 1979 respectively, completing the Blue household. Margaret's top priority remained her family throughout her life.

Margaret volunteered much of her free time to the needs of others. She volunteered in Goldsboro, NC from 1978 to 1982 at institutions such as The Developmental School, the American National Red Cross, Coastal Carolina Girl Scouts as a troop leader, and the Chapel at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base as a Sunday School Teacher. She continued to volunteer with the Girl Scouts as a troop leader in three different cities over the subsequent 6 years, and she also volunteered as a teacher's assistant in both Austell, GA and Enid, OK.

In addition to her volunteer work, Margaret maintained her license as an LPN while working part time for agencies such as UpJohn Healthcare Services in Raleigh, NC and Kimberly Services in Enid, OK. By the time of her divorce from Joel Blue in December 1990, she had begun to work full time as an LPN at Fort Pierce Care Center in Fort Pierce, FL. After her divorce, she maintained her focus on her children.

When Joel, Rebecca, and Robert moved to Pensacola, FL in 1992, Margaret moved shortly afterwards. She continued to work full-time as a nurse in Pensacola, and over the years, she has worked at Baptist Manor Nursing Home, Northwest Florida Home Health Agency, Advanced Medical Care, Cardiology Consultants at Sacred Heart Hospital, Covenant Hospice, Bayside Health and Rehabilitation, and New Horizons of Northwest Florida. She has garnered many friendships in Pensacola, including a special relationship with Lyle McColley, with whom she lived for more than a decade prior to his passing in 2014.

She remained devoted to the care of her children and her patients even after being diagnosed with breast cancer and ovarian cancer in January 2018. She underwent numerous surgeries, three courses of chemotherapy, and one course of radiation therapy before finally succumbing to complications of ovarian cancer. Despite her diagnosis, she continued to work at New Horizons into January 2021, feeling that taking care of others gave her life purpose.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the funeral service begins at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel in Pensacola, FL. Burial will occur at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker, GA.
