Margaretta Merrill, 97, of Pensacola, FL passed away Monday, September 23, 2013. She was a member of more than 70 years of First United Methodist Church and the Wesley Fellowship Class. She was currently the oldest living member of the church, where she played the piano and worked in many areas. As a young woman, Margaretta studied music in college and had a musical piano program on WCOA in the San Carlos Hotel. Margaretta was an active member of many community organizations including being Chairwoman of the Escambia County Council of the Parent-Teacher Association. She was also civics chairwoman of her garden club and belonged to the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #9. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ralph S. Merrill, Sr., who died in 1998. Her survivors include her son, Ralph S. Merrill, Jr. (Elizabeth); daughter, Mary Ann Tilman; sister, Mary Alice (Pat) Parks; niece, Ruth Parks Ohl Andrew; nephew, Charles Walter Parks; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 2:30pm at St. John's Cemetery with Rev. Ken Autrey officiating.
