IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marie D.
Sjoberg
December 6, 1950 – November 14, 2021
Marie D. Sjoberg, 70, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 14, 2021.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Marie E. and Joseph Senatore, who, though not her biological father, chose her as his daughter, adopted her, and gave her his name and love.
Marie is survived by her husband and best friend, Daniel E. Miller; her daughter, Laura E. Sjoberg; her son, John David Sjoberg; as well as stepchildren, Britt Miller (and family), Mike Miller (and family), and Jennifer Heath (and family); as well as her half-sister, Jeannine A. Madison (and family).
Born in Newark, NJ, Marie migrated to Florida with her parents and half-sister while she was in high school. Marie graduated from Northeast High School in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1968 and then attended and graduated from the University of Florida in 1972. She earned a BA in English, Communication Arts, Speech, and Secondary Education. Marie was a big fan of the Gators. She married another Gator, David Sjoberg (d. 2016). Both before and after the birth of her first child, Laura, Marie worked for the State of Florida in State Testing and then Child Support Enforcement. After moving to Pensacola, Marie conceived and gave birth to her second child, John David. Not long after that, she was divorced from David Sjoberg and started the journey of a single parent.
With the help of angels, Betty Hicks and Janice Robbins, Marie came to know the Lord. Marie taught at Episcopal Day School and then East Hill Christian High School. She loved every one of her many students, each with their own special gifts. Marie felt the Lord calling her to do more than teach and with the love and support of her long-time friend, Daniel E. Miller, she went back to graduate school. Marie secured a Master of Arts in Psychology / Counseling and became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Marie and Dan married a few months before she graduated. Their journey of love and friendship spanned 25 years and endured many crises but none that the Lord had not carried them through, and each a learning and growing experience. When Marie retired from counseling, she got a call from the Department Chair of the University of West Florida Psychology Department asking if she would like to teach a course or two.
Marie taught classes at UWF for 9 years and enjoyed every class and student. Teaching was learning something, which was her life-long passion. Marie was either in a classroom helping young people grow or in the garden helping plants and flowers grow.
