Martha Pinner Burgess, 99, passed away peacefully at her residence at Azalea Trace on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.
Martha was born on July 3, 1924, in Elizabeth City, NC and was the eldest of three children born to Joseph B. and Mattie (Weatherly) Pinner. She was lovingly called "NanNan" by her family members. NanNan met the love of her life Benjamin F. "Frank" Burgess, Jr., a US Naval Aviator in 1945, and they were married in Elizabeth City, NC. She passionately followed him throughout military and civilian careers, moving / setting up new residences eleven times across the eastern USA and Great Britian. She always provided a warm, loving home for Frank and her three children and visiting relatives and friends. NanNan lived her life with dedication and passion for her faith in God and family. She eagerly extended her love and joy of family to everyone she met and profoundly enriched the lives of those who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Col. William Pinner, USAF (ret), and husband, Benjamin F. "Frank" Burgess, Jr.
She is survived by her three children; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; as well as her baby sister, JoAnn Foreman of Elizabeth City, NC.
A private graveside service will be held Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Barrancas National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waterfront Rescue Mission, 348 W. Herman St., Pensacola, FL 32505.
