Martha Mae (Nobles) Taffe, 84, of Pensacola, FL passed away Friday, December 27, 2013. Mrs. Taffe was a descendent of an old prominent family of Pensacola, dating back to the early 1800's. Mrs. Taffe was born on November 2, 1929 the youngest daughter of the late Dr. Latimer Clinton Nobles, and the former Olivia Boone of Pensacola, FL. She graduated from Pensacola High School, and the Florida State University with a B. S. in Elementary Education. She studied music with her aunt the late Mrs. John Boschen of Pensacola, FL and later on with the late Estelle Liebling of New York City, NY. While in New York, she continued her education, first at NYU and then at Columbia Universities. She furthered her interest in music by performing and recording along with her three elder sisters as a vocal quartet (The Nobles' Sisters). Mrs. Taffe was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and long-time member of the Gadsden Street United Methodist Church, Pensacola, FL. She began her work career as a second grade teacher in the Escambia County School System, but later, upon starting a family, was very happy and satisfied to be a full-time wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Latimer C. Nobles of Pensacola, FL; her husband Owen H. Taffe, Jr.; sisters, Mary Alta Nobles, Cornelia Olivia (Nobles) Nettles (Leslie) and Virginia L. Nobles all of Pensacola, FL. Granddaughter of the late Robert E. and Cornelia (Roberts) Nobles, and the niece of the late, Miss Lena, Lucille and Eva Nobles; Lawrence E. Lemuel A., Dr. William D., Dr. Velpeau R. , Dr. Perry E. and Dr. Clifton C. Nobles all of Pensacola, FL. She is survived by her two sons, Owen H. Taffe, III (Suzanne) of Lanoke, AR and Clinton P. Taffe of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Connor P., Garrett M. and Aiden D. Taffe, AR; three nephews, Leslie B. Nettles, Jr. (Dawn) of San Diego, CA, John H. Taffe (Suzan) of Atlanta, GA and Andrew C. Tullos (Tamera) of Lawrenceville, GA; along with seven grand-nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00pm Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A double Graveside Service with her sister Mary Alta Nobles, will be held at Robert's Cemetery on Creighton Road at 2:00pm Monday, January 6, 2014 with the Rev. Bobby Ellisor officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be sent to Gadsden Street United Methodist Church, 901 E. Gadsden St., Pensacola, FL 32501 or to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504. The family would like to extend its'appreciation to Covenant Hospice, CareStaff and Nobles Independent Consultants, all of Pensacola, FL along with Pamela R.
