IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha Gonzalez
Quina
October 15, 1928 – June 28, 2025
Martha Gonzalez Quina died peacefully on the morning of June 28, 2025. She was 96 years old.
Born on October 15, 1928, Martha Wainwright Gonzalez was the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Dickson B. Gonzalez (Ruth Withnell) of Pensacola, FL. She was raised at Loretto, the Gonzalez family home at Bohemia, on the shores of Escambia Bay. She attended St. Michael's School (The Torry School), the Academy of the Sacred Heart, New Orleans, and The College of the Sacred Heart, Grand Coteau, LA. In 1957, she married Clarence Reid Quina and together they brought up 7 children, also at Loretto. Raising her children and grandchildren was her great vocation. A devoted wife and mother, Martha loved to be with her family, to garden, to read, to watch birds, to play cards and games, and was a crossword puzzle fanatic. She also loved nothing more than to have a drink on the porch overlooking the bay in the company of her loved ones. Throughout her life, she was a gracious, fun-loving hostess who brought together her immediate and extended family for countless holidays and picnics during the year and was well-loved by all including old family friends and the friends of her children and grandchildren. A devout Catholic, she was raised in St. Michael's Parish and in her adult life belonged to Sacred Heart (where she was married) and then St. Paul's, where she was a founding parishioner. For many years, she belonged to the Nomads, Pensacola's oldest study group. She also volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence (1923-1997), and by all her siblings and their spouses: Cecile G. Malone (George), Ruth G. Cary (Henry), Margaret G. Miller, Genevieve Gonzalez (who died as a child), and Dickson B. Gonzalez, Jr. (Joan). She is also predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Anne Quina, a son-in-law Michael Godfrey, and a grandson-in-law, Brett Williams.
She is survived by her 7 children and their families: Mary Dickson Quina (Robert Owens), C. Reid Quina, Jr, Anthony Quina (Nancy), Margaret Godfrey, Grace Quina, Lucy Leslie (Fred), and Stephen Quina. She is also mourned by 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Genevieve Bustos Williams, Johanna Henry Carmichael, Matthew Henry, Marshall Henry, Corinne Deputy, Elizabeth Quina, Clare Quina, Grace Leslie, Samuel Leslie, and Sarah Leslie. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended relatives of both Gonzalez and Quina families.
