Obituary

Dr. Martina Sternberg, Ph.D. and retired Air Force, 53, of Navarre, FL, passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 2nd, 2018. She was preceded in death by her mother Dolores Henry, her son Joshua Craig, and her brother Martin Preston. She is survived by her husband Scott Sternberg, daughter Jessica Craig, grandson Gabriel Craig, and sisters and brothers Gary Preston, Gail Boggs, Donna Smith, Dan Preston, Maureen Hoosier, and Matt Preston. She was a devoted aunt (and so much more) to many. Martina was an active member of her community, not only participating in local programs to assist those in need, but also starting from the ground up the Trauma Intervention Program in Florida, the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue, and the Grandparents Raising Grandkids Association. Her relentless work with homeless veterans helped thousands via fundraisers, benefits, and Stand Downs, which endowed her with several prestigious awards, including the sole Distinguished Hoosier Award by the Governor of Indiana and Veteran of the Year Award, as well. Martina was a prominent gay rights advocate, and as a result, was invited to the White House when the President signed the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell . Additionally, she held a long time professor position teaching a multitude of classes, and produced many literary works in professional publications. She worked as a psychologist with a degree in Human Behavior Psychology. It was clear to all that her life was a selfless dedication to helping others, outshined only by how much she unconditionally loved her children, who were always her first priority. With a smile that could brighten the room, her enormous personality and wealth of selflessness will be sorely missed by all. She was a bright light in this world, no matter how dim the earth around her, and she touched many lives by broadcasting her radiance.
