Obituary

Dr. Marvin Larry "Doc" Woodruff, 70, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 6, 2016.

Larry or "Doc" as most people called him, was born September 24, 1946 in Montgomery, AL to Marvin and Annie Woodruff. His family moved to Pensacola, and he graduated from Pensacola High School in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army, and he graduated from the University of West Florida in 1972 and from Life Chiropractic in 1980. Doc opened the Gulf Coast Spinal Center in 1980 where he led a team serving the chiropractic needs of the local community. Doc was a member of the Coastal Conservation Society and Florida Chiropractic Association. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award in 2012, by the FCA. Doc was devoted to his family, his patients, his employees and anyone in need.

Doc's zeal and passion for life led him into many adventures. He was the owner of Southwind Marina and Ryan's Catch Restaurant where his love for fishing brought joy and jobs to thousands of people. He turned his fishing hobby into a commercial fishing business and a charter boat business. He was notorious for always hitting "just one more spot" and always making sure his customers and friends had a great day on the water. He was also the owner of Snug Harbor Lounge and Tommy Hunter's Café where many people enjoyed sharing a beer with him until it, along with Ryan's Catch Restaurant, were destroyed by Hurricane Ivan. Doc was also involved with Beachside Bingo and helped raise money for more than 150 local charities through this venture.  He provided opportunities for many, and his generosity was well known throughout Pensacola as he helped without ever seeking credit. He cared for others, and his friends were many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Annie Woodruff; father-in-law, Howard Clark; brother-in-law, Mike Monahan and special nephew, Aaron Lee Thomas.

Doc is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Lynn Clark Woodruff. Forever remembered by beloved children; Rachel (Jason) Jones of Pensacola, Ryan (Heather) Woodruff of Colorado Springs, CO., Hunter Woodruff of Pensacola and Ron Strobo of Pensacola; four treasured grandchildren, Jett and Harper Jones, and Beaux and Cody Woodruff; sisters, Margaret Monahan and Pat Thomas (Bob) of Pensacola; brother, Kenneth (Reneé) of Pensacola; his devoted mother-in-law, Louise Clark and a host of nieces, nephews and countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him.

Doc touched the lives of many and leaves behind an indelible imprint on the Perdido region with his quiet confidence and helping hand.
