Mary Lee Peterson Gore passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the age of 98. She was born in Wilmington, NC on January 15, 1915 to Mary Lee Priest Peterson and Henry Ellis Peterson. After graduating in the New Hanover High School class of 1932, she worked for more than 38 years in the telephone industry. Mary Lee began her career as an operator for Southern Bell in Wilmington, NC. She transferred to the Commercial Division where she was a service representative in both Wilmington and Oakland, CA. She moved to Pensacola in 1953 as a service representative and unit supervisor. Later, she worked as the Supervisor of Public Relations, a position she held until her retirement from Southern Bell in October, 1973. Mary Lee was responsible for going into schools to teach children how to use the telephone. She considered these children very special. Mary Lee and her husband were charter members of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Pensacola. She was a Daughter of the Nile and was active in the Shriners' social and benevolent activities for many years. Mary Lee loved to sing and play the piano. She enjoyed the garden club, making crafts and entertaining both in Pensacola and at their cottage on Pensacola Beach. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, George W. Gore; her sister, Flora Ellis (Barney Lee) Von Cannon; her brother, Henry Hector (Clarice Watts) Peterson and their spouses. Mary Lee is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services and reception will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3400 Bayou Blvd., Pensacola on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 11:30am. Burial will follow in Barrancas National Cemetery at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504 in her memory.
