Obituary

Mary Camille Johnson Carunchio returned to her Savior on 17 March 2014 at Sacred Heart Hospital from Paraneoplastic syndrome. Camille was born on 14 December 1944 to C.L. and Erma Johnson in Ferriday, LA. The family returned to Woodville, MS in 1946 where Camille spent her childhood, graduating from Woodville High School in 1964. Camille then enrolled in Delta State College and graduated in 1968 with a BS in Biology. She was accepted into the Medical Laboratory Technology Program at St Joseph Hospital School of Medical Technology in Memphis, TN, graduating in 1969. For the next eight years she worked at various hospitals and doctor's offices in Memphis. In 1974 she married EWC Donald J. Carunchio, USN and became a Navy wife. Camille lived in Gaeta Italy from 1977 to 1980 which was followed by three years living at Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. The family arrived in Pensacola in 1983 where Camille gained employment as a substitute teacher until 1995 at St Michael's Catholic School and the Escambia County School District. For the past seventeen years she has been an active volunteer at the St Vincent De Paul Thrift Store on 9th Avenue and also a member of the Healthy Start Coalition of Escambia County. Her parents preceded her and she is survived by her husband, EWCM Donald J. Carunchio, USN, Ret; her brother, Thomas Tillery Johnson (Pamela) of Woodville, MS; sister, Martha Carol Roublau (Emil) of Ocean Springs, MS, and numerous relatives. For the past fifteen years Camille enjoyed attending various sporting events at the University of West Florida and this past year became a member of the Argonaut Athletic Club. Camille was a life member of the Delta State University Alumni Association. In lieu of flowers please make donations in her name to the St Vincent De Paul Society, 3832 N. 9th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32503 or the UWF Athletic Scholarship Fund, 11000 University Pkwy., Bldg. 18, Main lobby, Pensacola, FL 32514. The family wishes to thank Dr. Donald Blackmon and his staff at MD VIP, Dr. Steven DeCeasre and Dr. Dawn Hannah, Dr. Lawrence King, Dr. Thomas D. Sunnenberg, Dr. Mathew Pauli, and the Nurses and Staff at Sacred Heart Hospital 2E, St. Catherine Wing for their support over the past six months. In addition another thank you to the staff of the Health Center of Pensacola where Camille was in residence while undergoing rehabilitation and speech therapy for the past three months. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 29, 2014 with a Rosary to begin at 2:30 pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Barrancas Cemetery on board Naval Air Station Pensacola at a later date.
