"Kathy" Rushing Loveless
October 15, 1936 – March 16, 2018
Mary Katherine "Kathy" Rushing Loveless, a loving and devoted wife and mother, went home to be with God on March 16, 2018. She was born October 15, 1936, in Jackson, MS, the second of two children of the late Brig. Gen. Edgar and Katherine Kyger Rushing. Her brother, Robert Kyger Rushing, also predeceased her.
After a childhood in Jackson, Kathy completed high school as Class Valedictorian at Sullins College in Bristol, VA. She continued her stellar academic record at The University of Alabama, being selected for Beta Gama Sigma, a national business honorary, and received a B.S. Degree in Commerce and Business Administration, majoring in Business Statistics. Kathy was a member and officer of Chi Omega social sorority and was presented as a Mississippi Debutante.
While an Alabama student, Kathy met Ralph Loveless, who became and remained her husband for 60 years. Upon receiving her degree, she worked for Cotton States Life Insurance Company in Tuscaloosa, AL while Ralph finished Law School. In 1957, they moved to Mobile, AL, where Kathy worked in the Trust Department, American National Bank, while Ralph was on active duty in the U.S. Air Force. When he returned, she left the bank and devoted her life to her husband and raising a family. Kathy was also an active volunteer, including serving as a Board Member of Florence Crittenden Home and as President of the USA Medical Center Auxiliary.
Kathy was an active member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church until Ralph retired in 2001. They then moved to Perdido Key, FL and became active members of Perdido Bay United Methodist Church.
Kathy is survived by Ralph, their two daughters, Laura Loveless Anderson (Patrick) of Melbourne, FL and Linda Loveless Milstead (Jeff) of Atlanta, GA, and four grandchildren, Katie Anderson of New York, NY, Abby Anderson of Asheville, NC, and Ross and Elizabeth Milstead of Atlanta, GA.
Kathy's funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Perdido Bay United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will begin at 2:00 p.m. with the service following at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in Barrancas National Cemetery in a private ceremony.
Kathy will be sorely missed by her family and all with whom she came in contact. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or Perdido Bay United Methodist Church, 13660 Innerarity Point Rd., Pensacola, FL 32507.
