Obituary

Mary Maxine Lalas, age 69, of Pensacola, FL passed away on October 1, 2012 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Maxine was born in Andalusia, AL and lived most of her life in Pensacola, FL. She was a 1961 graduate of Straughn High School in Andalusia, AL. She is preceded in death by her mother; Levis Henderson; sister, Darlene Henderson and father, Egie Taylor all of Andalusia, AL. Maxine is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Joel T. Lalas; her daughter, Traci Phillips (Craig); her two grandsons, Charles (Chas) Phillips and Connor Phillips; her two sisters, Lucille McGee (Ken) and Voncile Garrett; her brother, Homer Taylor (Sue) and many other wonderful family members and friends. She was known by her family and friends as Maxine, Mac, Macme and Nana. Regardless of the name they chose to call her, she was loved dearly and will be missed by all. She was a loving person and cherished her family. She chose to stay at home to raise her daughter and devoted her life to the family. She had a special talent helping to design and decorate homes that her husband built for their family. Her greatest joy was taking trips with her grandsons and watching them play baseball. She had a zest for life that was witnessed until the last few days of her life. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00pm Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, October 5, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504 or on line at covenanthospice.org/WaysToGive for all of their kind acts during her extended illness. The family wishes to give Special thanks to Covenant Hospice; Dr. Thomas Sunnenberg and Dr. Jeff Strickland and their staffs for the wonderful care throughout her treatment.
