Mary Sue Long, 86 of Pensacola, FL passed away on August 4, 2019.
Mary Sue Crawford-Long was born on October 9, 1933 in Commerce, GA. After high school she attended Secretarial College in Atlanta, GA, shortly thereafter, Sue met her future husband, Sid Long, on a blind date in 1953. They married on June 13, 1954. In 1956, Sid and Sue moved to Pensacola, FL, where Sid began his 30 year career at Monsanto. Between March 1955 and October 1961, Sue and Sid welcomed the births of their four children; Joe, Greg, Eric, and Susie. In the 60's and 70's, Sue's days were filled with running a household, volunteering at schools, teaching Sunday School, cooking, and raising her children in an idyllic family home. Her hobbies throughout the years included cooking, learning how to macramé, sewing, painting, clay sculpting, fishing, collecting keys, and being able to travel with Sid once they became empty nesters. They traveled to Mexico, Las Vegas, and numerous cities in Florida. In 1992, Sue had the opportunity to travel to Turkey with her son, Greg, and daughter-in-law, Gonca.
In June of 2004, Sid and Sue celebrated their 50 year wedding anniversary. Her children celebrated this amazing date with a surprise party at a local Chinese restaurant. They were surrounded by friends and family from across the United States.
On February 14, 2015, Sue lost her beloved husband. Sue spent her last 4 years battling Alzheimer's disease and being taken care of by her children and the amazing staff at Homestead's Respite Care Cottage I.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Sid Long.
She is survived by her three sons; Joe Long, Greg Long (Gonca), Eric Long (Sharron Elliott) and her daughter Susie Dawson (Doug); eight grandchildren, Danny Long (Dawn), Adam Long, "Little" Eric Long (Amanda), Jessica Wallace, Miles Kennedy, Yelda Long, D'lara Long and Aaron Dawson; four great grandchildren, Danielle Long, Zander Long, Lorelei Long and Brooke Long; sister, Dean White and brother, Vernon Crawford (Dorothy).
Visitation will be 1:00pm until a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.
The family wishes to thank the director and staff at Homestead, Louise Sutton, and Regency Hospice.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Regency Hospice, 50 Beverly Parkway, Suite 200, Pensacola, FL 32505.
