Obituary

Mary Jones Mayes, 92, a resident of Wesley Haven Villas, Pensacola passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017. Mary was born in Alachua County, FL on August 1, 1925 to D. L. and Nancy Ivey Jones. She married the love of her life, Frank Dewey Mayes, Jr. in 1944. They were happily married until he preceded her in death on February 26, 2006. Mary has missed him every day since then and was happily expecting to see him in heaven. Mary was an outgoing, friendly, well loved person who enjoyed her many friends, cooking, traveling and spending time with her family. She was involved in many clubs and organizations. She was very involved with her church, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. As far as our family is concerned, her biggest claim to fame, other than her children and grandchildren, was her cooking.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Dewey Mayes, Jr.; her brothers, Robert Marlin Jones, Earnest Merlin Jones and D. L. Jones, Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Jeannie Jones Irby (Edward L. Irby); her son, Frank Dewey "Chip" Mayes, III (Angela Adams); her daughter, Margaret Anne Mayes; her grandchildren, Mary N. Wise (Ty A. Wise), Adrianne O. Fulford, Elizabeth Schrey, Marian Mayes Hodge (J. Q. Hodge), Bonnie Beck and her great grandchildren, Ty A. Wise, Jr., Devontrey Mayes Wiley, Caleb A. Bland, Kendall A. Wise, Grant T. Wise, Madelyn G. Wise, Cadence S. Schrey, Caroline Schrey and Declan Dewey Hodge.
