Mary Alice McCutcheon Burns passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2023.
Alice was raised in Russellville, AL and graduated from Russellville HS. While attending the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and a cheerleader, she met John while he was serving in the United States Military. They married on September 30, 1944, and made their home in Mountain Brook, AL.
Alice enjoyed her work at the American Heart Association, and Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital. She loved to read, go to the movies, play bridge and scrabble, learn about History, Art, and Archaeology, and watch Alabama Crimson Tide Football. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Mary Elizabeth Elliott McCutcheon; brother, Thomas McCutcheon; her loving husband, John O Burns Sr.; and her son, John O Burns Jr.
She is survived by her children, Thomas E. Burns (Marisa), Betsy Moraski (Roger) and Patty Vaughn (Eric); daughter-in-law, Patricia; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
A memorial will be held in Birmingham at a time to be determined.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Haven of Our Lady of Peace, and Covenant Hospice in Pensacola.
