Mary Katherine McKeown Kelton, 79, passed from this earth on March 10, 2015. She was born in Gainesville, FL to Colonel Charles McKeown and Frances Sheppard McKeown. As part of an Army family, the McKeown's were stationed at Fort Benning, GA, Chatereau, France and Newport News, VA. Yet, Mary Kate called Pensacola her home just like her Sheppard-Gonzalez relatives. Mary Kate worked as a journalist at the Pensacola News Journal before she graduated summa cum laude from Florida State University with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in 1958. In the same year, Mary Kate married Francis Henry Kelton, Jr., president of the family run Nehi Bottling Company in downtown Pensacola. Mary Kate was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was very active in the Catholic communities of Pensacola including the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School, as well as Pensacola Catholic High School. Mary Kate is survived by her four sons; Francis Henry Kelton, III, Patrick Joseph Kelton, Michael William Kelton and John Timothy Kelton; by her older brother, Harry Sheppard McKeown; three sister-in-laws, two brother-in-laws, two daughter-in-laws and ten grandchildren. A Rosary will be prayed at 5:00pm, Monday, March 16, 2015 with visitation continuing until 7:00pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Msgr. Michael Reed and Msgr. James Flaherty co-celebrants. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in the Kelton Family Plot. The family offers special thanks to Dr. Henry Dohn, Sacred Heart Hospital PCU and Covenant Hospice's Joyce Goldenberg Inpatient Residence.
