Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Morgan Teschel, 66, of Pensacola, FL, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side Saturday, January 14, 2023, after a more than 10-year battle with Aphasia and Alzheimer's diseases.

Mary was born April 15, 1956, to James and Dorothy (Venezia) Morgan. She was one of four children. After graduating from Catholic High School, Mary moved onto PJC. In 2010, she received a bachelor's degree from the University of West Florida after taking a long hiatus to raise her children and work in management and teaching. On April 4, 1981, she married the love of her life, Terry. Their families were deeply connected since grade school at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School. They had two children, Claire (Eddie) Konishi, and Vincent Teschel, and celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in April 2021 before Terry's passing that following September.

Many people knew Mary from one of two places, Kinney Shoe Corp. in Warrington - where she started at age 16 in 1972 working as a clown and by the time she left in 1990, had become the first female district manager - and St. John's, where she taught for 22 years. Her time teaching at St. John's was full of beautiful memories, long-lasting friendships, and faithful service. She cherished God, her faith, and instilled those values in her children and grandchildren.

If you were a frequent visitor of the Navy Point neighborhood, you would often see Mary taking her twice-daily walks on the water with Terry, Vincent and their loyal lab, Beaux. Terry always liked to joke that Mary loved Beaux more than him. Beaux was by her side until her last breath.

Known to many as Mary, she also went by Mary Beth, Mare-Bo, Mom, Sista friend, Big Mamma and of course, Nanny. Some highlights over the years for Mary included visiting her three beautiful granddaughters in California, taking a Hawaiian cruise to see her son, Vincent, as cruise director, riding a trolley in San Francisco, visiting Claire and Vincent when they were interning in New York City, her mother/son dates with Vinny downtown, getting frozen yogurt with her granddaughters and her bayou walks with Navy Point neighbors.

Mary was the epitome of grace and class, representing all that was good, the mother of all mothers, the hostess of the mostess, the best friend to all. She was beloved by many and will be missed by countless. She showed tremendous courage and perseverance against her challenges in life, never letting them get her down and being determined to fight until the end. She had an endless smile that could light up a room.

We want to thank the Covenant Care Hospice team for their amazing care over the years, especially nurses Annabell and Paula; Mary and Pam for their caring and support, the TLC Caregivers entire team, including Matreasa, and most of all, Cindy, for her unconditional love and support of Mary and Vincent since Terry's death. We want to thank Mary's family and friends who spent their time being present with her at home. We are certain that your love brought warmth to her heart.

When initially diagnosed, Mary was part of an Alzheimer's research study in San Francisco and set up for her brain to be donated to research after her death. Her selfless nature never faded throughout her disease. In her words, "If I can help even one person not suffer what I am going through, then I want to."

In addition to Terry, Mary is preceded in death by both her parents, James and Dorothy Morgan.

She is survived by her two children; three granddaughters, Cora, Dottie, and Pema; siblings James (Betsy) Morgan, Kenny (Martha) Morgan and Sally Gilbreath; 21 nieces and nephews; 21 great-nieces and great-nephews; and four godchildren.

A Rosary will be prayed at 9:30am with a Memorial Mass to follow at 10:30am Thursday, January 26, 2023, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Warrington, with Fr. Patrick Gilbreath and Fr. John Licari concelebrating. A celebration of life will follow at 12:30pm at The Pensacola Country Club, 1500 Bayshore Dr., Pensacola, FL 32507.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Covenant Care Hospice of Pensacola, Council on Aging of West Florida, ARC Gateway Pearl Nelson Program in honor of Mary's nephew Jared or a contribution to the Teschel Family.

Mary is unforgettable, in every way.
