With great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Simmons Roy on Monday, June 12, 2023.

Mary Frances was born to Frank and Mary Simmons on August 27, 1927 in Milton, FL. Mary and her family moved to Pensacola where she graduated from Pensacola High School in 1945. Mary Frances was awarded a scholarship and attended Florida State University. Her father facilitated her obtaining a job with the US postal service, for which she had many fond memories. Mary Frances met her husband, Navy pilot Robert I. "Bob" Roy, while he was stationed in Pensacola. They were married November 4, 1950. She often reminisced about her time spent following Bob's deployment in Europe. Bob and Mary moved often and lived in multiple states during Bob's Naval career. She had four children to whom she was a compassionate and caring mother. Some of her passions were cooking incredible meals for her family, sewing and reading. Mary Frances was a strong woman who navigated raising their children, often on her own due to Bob's deployments. Eventually, Mary and Bob returned to Pensacola in 1972. Sadly, Bob passed away on November 4, 2006 after 56 years of marriage. Mary Frances loved Bob dearly, and we find solace that they can be together once again.

Mary Frances is loved and missed by her children and their spouses, Bob Roy Jr., Babette & Mike Kirsch, Susan & Joe Hargadon, and Belle & David DeBari. She is also remembered by her grandchildren Heidi Hargadon, Claire Hargadon, Samantha Bean, Megan DeBari, and Alex DeBari, to whom she was a doting and proud grandmother.

Our incredible mother and grandmother is remembered for her kindness, her generosity, her humor, and her many stories that will continue to live on in our hearts.

Visitation will be held 3:00-5:00pm Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service will be held 11:30am Monday, June 19, 2023, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity of your choice in her name.
