Mary A. Tully, 84, of Pensacola, FL, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Pensacola's Baptist Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born May 31, 1938, to Paul and Sadie Deeb in Peoria, IL, moving with her sister Paula to Washington, DC, after graduating high school. In 1957, Mary met a young sailor, Michael F. Tully, at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, where they both worked. They wed in 1959, and had three children, eldest son, Mark, daughter, Paula and son, Daniel, who were honored to share in her full lifetime of laughter, kindness, and courage.
She raised her three children as a Navy wife, often on her own while Mike was deployed overseas. She traveled far from her Peoria hometown during her life, but Mary remained close to her large Lebanese family of nine siblings, of which she was the last surviving.
Once the family was settled in Pensacola, she attended college. She worked for the federal government at Saufley Field, retiring as a manuscript editor, and then went on to do volunteer work, including for hospice and St. Joseph's Medical Clinic.
Her musical tastes ranged from Luciano Pavarotti to Bruce Springsteen. Mary was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and counted it as one of life's blessings that she got to see them win the World Series during her lifetime. She made sure she took each of her grandchildren to her beloved Wrigley Field when they were old enough.
Though she lived in Chicago, Washington DC, Hawaii, Guam, and Great Lakes, she and Mike fell in love with Pensacola and made it their permanent home.
Mary is preceded in death by husband, Michael, who passed away in 1999; as well as nine siblings, Barbara, Dan, Paul, Paula, Carol, Julie, Joe, Marsha, and Tom.
She is survived by daughter, Paula Tully Bryant (Chris) of Tallahassee, FL; sons, Dan and Mark Tully, of Pensacola; daughter-in-law, Gail Dannatt Tully; grandchildren, Kira and Michael Tully of Pensacola, Andrew Bryant of Washington, DC, and Daniel Bryant of Tallahassee; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held 10:30am until a Funeral Service to begin at 11:30am Friday, June 9, 2023, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, with Bishop Martin Holley officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, where Mary will be laid to rest alongside her late husband, Michael.
Pallbearers will be Dan Tully, Chris Bryant, Andrew Bryant, Daniel Bryant, Michael Tully, Jr., and Mark Erwin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The Jim and Trudy Maloof St. Jude Midwest Affiliate Clinic, Peoria, IL or St. Joseph's Medical Clinic, 131 Intendencia St., Pensacola, FL.
The family would like to thank Leisa Hand Tarbuck and Mary's caregiver Ashley Glova for their loving and dedicated assistance as Mary's health declined. We will be forever grateful.
