Obituary

Mary Theresa Yniestra Cherberg, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 3:00pm.

Mary was born in Mobile, AL on July 28, 1928 to the late Angela Moreno Yniestra. She was an only child. Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Thomas Peter Cherberg and her youngest son, Michael Edward Cherberg.

Mary grew up in Pensacola. She and her husband, Tommy, raised two sons, were active in the Catholic Church, and enjoyed dancing together weekly with friends in downtown Pensacola. She loved spending time with her two granddaughters, Kim and Amy. Mary was known as MawMaw to her family. MawMaw was a kind and compassionate woman who worked hard at caring for her family and others. She was an excellent cook and would never let anyone leave her home hungry or thirsty. Mary's sweet tea was the best in all the South! Her card playing was on point and she loved watching Wheel of Fortune. She was a devoted Catholic and loved the Lord with all her heart. Mary passed on a Saturday, just as her late husband Tommy and her late son Michael did. They are all Saturday Angels.

In her younger years Mary enjoyed dip-net crabbing. She also loved sewing and working outdoors in her yard. She was a wizard at restoring old clocks and renewing old lamps that seemed beyond repair.

Mary went to be with the Lord at exactly 3:00 PM. The same time that our Lord Jesus died on the cross. The Hour of Mercy.

At three o'clock, implore My mercy, especially for sinners; and, if only for a brief moment, immerse yourself in My Passion, particularly in My abandonment at the moment of agony. This is the hour of great mercy. In this hour, I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion (Diary, 1320).

As often as you hear the clock strike the third hour, immerse yourself completely in My mercy, adoring and glorifying it; invoke its omnipotence for the whole world, and particularly for poor sinners; for at that moment mercy was opened wide for every soul. In this hour you can obtain everything for yourself and for others for the asking; it was the hour of grace for the whole world - mercy triumphed over justice. (1572)

Mary is survived by her son, Richard Thomas Cherberg (Joanne) of Pensacola, FL; two granddaughters, Kimberly Diane Cherberg of Pensacola, and Amy Michelle Gomez of Tampa, FL; her great-granddaughter, Kora Michelle Perkins of Tampa, FL; as well as by her faithful and loving companion, her dog, Sophie.

MawMaw was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
