MaryAnne Sims Beovich

March 4, 1934 – March 6, 2020

MaryAnne Sims Beovich passed away quietly on Friday, March 6, 2020 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

MaryAnne was born in Atlanta, Ga.  She graduated from Northside High School in their first graduating class.  She then attended Hollins College and the University of Alabama receiving her bachelor's degree in Business Administration.  She attained a master's degree in Business Administration from the University of West Florida.

In college MaryAnne was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority where she served as treasurer and remained an active alumnus for many years.  She was also a member of the Junior League of Pensacola where she served as president, as well as served as treasurer of the Junior League Thrift Shop.  As a member of the Junior League she played an integral role in the establishment of the Learning Disabilities Clinic at Baptist Hospital.   She was also one of the founders of "Evenings in Old Seville Square."  For many years she was a member of the Pierrettes Mardi Gras Organization, serving as an officer there as well.

MaryAnne was a talented mathematics teacher for many years at Pensacola School of Liberal Arts and then Pensacola Catholic High School.  She was loved by all who she taught.  Upon retirement MaryAnne spent many years volunteering her time with the Saint Vincent DePaul Society Thrift Store.  She also was an avid member of the local doll club.

MaryAnne was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Dominic Frank (Buster) Beovich, Jr., her parents Thomas Edward Sims and Walta Gladys Hansard Sims.

Mary Anne is survived by her children Frank Beovich (Trish), Betsy Walker, and Molly O'Connor (Rick).  Survivors also include her beloved grandchildren Drew O'Connor (Lindsay), Shannon O'Connor (KD), Catherine O'Connor (John), Dominic Beovich, IV (Samantha), Eric Beovich, Madison Walker, Jordan Walker, and Harry Walker, III.  She is also survived by two great grandsons, Garrett O'Connor and Palmer O'Connor and one great granddaughter Zi'yunna Streeter.  MaryAnne also leaves behind her brothers Tom Sims (Sherrie) and Clay Sims.  And finally, MaryAnne leaves behind her beloved furry companion Buster the dog.

Pallbearers include her grandsons Drew O'Connor, Dominic Beovich, IV, Eric Beovich, and Harry Walker, III, as well as Rick O'Connor and James D. Myers.

The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses of Sacred Heart Cancer Center for the special care they showed her over the last three years, especially Dr. Angela Ziebarth and Dr. Yazan Alsayed.  They would also like to thank the caring staff of Reverence Hall at the Haven of Our Lady of Peace for the loving care they provided during her time there.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 am until the funeral mass begins at 10:30 on Friday, March 13, 2020 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church Hall.  Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Roy Hyatt Environmental Center, 1300 Tobias Road, Cantonment, FL 32533 to support environmental education of elementary school aged children of the Escambia County School District.
