Obituary

Max Nicholas Zoellner, Sr., 94, of Pensacola passed away on Friday, December 17, 2010. He was born July 23, 1916 in Keokuk, Iowa to Professor Albert and Clara Zoellner well known and loved violin and piano teachers. In 1930 the family moved to Pensacola. After graduation from Pensacola High School in 1935 Mr. Zoellner joined the US Army at Ft. Barrancas when no jobs could be found. He was assigned to Battery B 13th Coast Artillery Regiment serving his country during WWII and the Korea conflict. On February 29, 1956 he retired with 21 ½ years active duty as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. After retiring from the army he worked with his brother at Zoellners Music House for over 20 years. Mr. Zoellner was a life time member of The Retired Officers Association, a lifetime member of the Naval Lodge #24 F & AM for over 50 years, 32nd degree Scottish Rite of Freemassonary, Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine since 1953, Hadji Shriner, also The American Legion. He is preceded in death by 3 brothers, Wotan Zoellner (Dorothy), Siegfried Zoellner (Vivian) and Albert Zoellner, Jr. (Scottie). He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Marjorie A. (White) Zoellner; son, Max N. Zoellner, Jr.; daughter, Maxine Z. Burke and her husband, retired US Army, Lt. Col. Patrick Burke all of Pensacola; granddaughter, Susan Leigh Michael and her husband, CDR Kyle Michael, USN stationed in San Diego, CA aboard the USS Carl Vinson; and great-grandchildren, James Nicholas Michael, Thomas Ramsay Michael, Kyla Ihilani Michael and Kaitlin Leilani Michael all of San Diego, CA; also in-laws, Clara Chew, Elmer White, Jr and Edward White (Ann); and many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held 5-7pm Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service will be held 1:00pm Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Ed Norris officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park with Full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Childrens Hospital. The family would like to give a special thanks to Nurse Lori and all those who gave loving care to Max. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
