Obituary

Melba Lowery Banakas, 87 years young, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 22, 2017. She was born April 20, 1930, in Geneva, AL. She moved to Pensacola after her High School Graduation when she started to work for Beneficial Finance Company. Early in 1950, Melba met Chris Banakas, the love of her life. They were married on September 22, 1950 and were happily married for 64 years.

Melba joined the First Baptist Church of Pensacola, in January of 1951. Her faith in The Lord came to her very early in her life and never left her. She never questioned His Strength or His Guidance of her life. Daily she would strive to live according to the teachings of her faith. Melba believed in kindness and courtesy towards everyone. She found many friends in her "church home" that lasted her lifetime.

A very special thank you to her family and friends that helped, supported, and enriched and shared her life.

Melba is preceded in death by her husband, Chris Banakas; her parents, Grady and Lois Lowery.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Edman (Gregory); her grandchildren, James G. Edman and Jessica E. Hales (Billy); and her great-grandaughter, Alice AnnMarie Hales.

A private burial has been planned by her family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan Hands of First Baptist Church, 500 N. Palafox St., Pensacola, FL 32501, or your favorite charity.
