Michael Thomas Baker, age 59, resident of Pensacola, FL, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 28, 2011. Mike was born in San Diego, CA on February 17, 1951 to Walter and Mildred Baker. Mike was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 1972 and earned his Wings of Gold in Kingsville, TX in 1973. After F-4 Phantom training, Mike was proud to be a Fighter Pilot. He received a Bachelor of Science from The University of Maryland in 1979. Mike worked as a pilot for Eastern Airlines from 1980 to 1989, during which he obtained the rank of captain. During his time at Eastern, he met his wife and love of his life, Charlene Bellamy Baker, a flight attendant. They married September 5, 1981. Mike left Eastern Airlines in 1989 and was hired at Federal Express in 1990 where he was a simulation instructor, line pilot, check airman, and line captain. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mildred Baker, stepmother, Toni Baker, and mother and father in law, Helen and Kenneth Bellamy. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Charlene; daughters, Whitney and Lindsay; brother, Rick Baker and wife Roxanne of Pensacola, FL; and sisters, Marilyn Baker and Carol Savage, husband Ray, of San Diego, CA; a stepbrother and two stepsisters, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was loved and revered by family, friends, and coworkers. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have shared a part of his life. Memorial services will be held 10:00am Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at the Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel, NAS Pensacola. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society, Muscular Dystrophy Association, or the National Flight Academy at the National Naval Aviation Museum.
