Michael James "Mike" DeSorbo, a devoted public servant, community leader, Navy serviceman, and beloved family man, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 31, 1937, in Schenectady, NY, Mike dedicated his life to serving the community he cherished, the great City of Pensacola, FL.

Mike carried a lifelong commitment to service. He was also a successful local businessman, owning and operating several national moving and storage companies in the Pensacola area over the course of many years. Through his businesses, Mike built lasting relationships throughout the community and earned a reputation for hard work, integrity, and dependability.

His passion for Pensacola and its citizens led him to serve on the Pensacola City Council from 1986 to 1993, during which time he also served as Mayor Pro Tem and Chairman of the Community Redevelopment Agency. He returned to the City Council in 1995 and continued his dedicated service as Chairman of the Finance Committee and a member of the Enterprise Operations Committee, the Community Redevelopment Agency, and the Committee of the Whole.

Throughout his years of civic leadership, Mike represented the City Council on numerous organizations, including the Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Pensacola-Escambia Development Commission, and the Tourism Development Council. His vision, leadership, and unwavering dedication helped shape the growth and development of Pensacola for generations to come.

Mike's commitment to his community extended beyond public office. He was an active member and former president of the Pensacola Jaycees and the Northeast Sertoma Club, where he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others. He was especially passionate about recreational sports, dedicating countless hours to the game of softball. As a manager of several softball leagues, including senior softball leagues, Mike was instrumental in bringing highly successful annual softball tournaments to Pensacola, helping to establish the city as a destination for the sport he loved.

In recognition of his lifelong dedication, hard work, and love of softball, and championed by his wife Millie, Exchange Park was renamed The Michael J. DeSorbo Exchange Park in 2006, a lasting tribute to the impact he made on the community he loved so dearly. Mike's commitment to the City of Pensacola extended far beyond his years as an elected official. He remained actively involved in serving the community as a City of Pensacola employee, working at the very ballpark that bears his name until illness prevented him from continuing.

Above all else, Mike treasured his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 66 years, Mildred Williamson DeSorbo, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and cherished memories.

Mike is survived by his son, Michael DeSorbo (Tristan); his daughter, Jamie Rogers (Bobby); four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom will forever carry his memory in their hearts. He leaves behind several close friends who meant so much to him and who shared many wonderful memories, good times, and laughter throughout the years. Their friendship was a special part of his life and will be deeply missed.

A Visitation will begin at 10:00am until the Funeral Mass Celebration at 11:00am Friday, September 4, 2026, at St. Paul Catholic Church, with Fr. Craig Smith, celebrant. Entombment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to Dr. Kevin Schopmeyer and his staff, and VITAS Hospice Care for their compassionate and exceptional care of Mike throughout his illness. Their kindness and dedication brought great comfort to both Mike and his family.

His friends and teammates from his many years of playing softball were a great source of pride, joy, and laughter throughout his life. The friendships and memories he made on the field brought him so much happiness, and those special bonds will always be remembered and cherished.

Mike's legacy of service, leadership, generosity, and love for his family and community will continue to inspire all who knew him. He was a great man who leaves behind a stronger Pensacola, countless friends, and a lifetime of memories that will be treasured forever. You will be here in our hearts always.
