Obituary

Michael Steven Jenkins, 59, of Milton, FL passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011. Steve Jenkins was born February 10, 1951, in Chattanooga, TN to Roy Carson and Velma Sue Jenkins. The third of five children, he enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and loved the outdoors. His family moved to Pensacola when he was a young child and has remained in the Pensacola area. He met his future wife of 36 years, Kathleen Kathy Faulkner, at the age of 14 at Ferry Pass Junior High School. They graduated from Woodham High School in 1969, married in 1974, and had four children that he loved very much. Steve was a member of St. John Divine Missionary Baptist Church in Milton, FL. He worked for many years as a Carpenter, loved working with his hands, loved animals, respected nature and enjoyed having deep discussions about science, philosophy, and life. Steve was a multifaceted person who wanted and lived a simple life. He is missed. He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Jenkins of Pensacola and his niece, Emily Jenkins of Tennessee. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Jenkins; his four children, Joshua Jenkins (Ann) of Washington, James Jenkins ( Kara) of Pensacola, Rachael Downs (Ricky) of Milton and Rebecca Thomas (Michael) of Pensacola; his six grandchildren, Isabelle Jenkins, Isaac Jenkins, Alexis and Carson Downs, Madison and Cole Thomas; his mother, Sue Jenkins of Pensacola; four siblings, Dwight Jenkins of Tennessee, Carolyn Rohr (Randy) of Pace, Suzanne Olvany (Jimmy) of Gulf Breeze and Donna Jenkins of Pensacola; his eight nieces and nephews, Julie Brown, Camille McGill, John, Sarah, Laura, and Will Jenkins, all of Tennessee; Jessica and Diana Rohr of Pace; and many grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins and friends. Memorial Service will be held 1:00pm Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Vernell Hanson, Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 5041 Corporate Woods Dr., Pensacola, FL 32504 or Covenant Hospice 5041 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504.
