Sidney S. "Mike" Woods passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at his home in Pensacola, FL.

He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Betty; his daughter Miriam Woods of Pensacola; son, Jim Woods of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Paytie and Elye Woods of San Diego, CA.

Mike was born in Carlsbad, NM, on October 27, 1928, and spent the first 7 years of his life on a ranch near Artesia, NM. Moving to Atlanta, GA, at an early age, he eventually graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in industrial engineering. He then worked for the Dupont Company in Chattanooga, TN, before being called into the Air Force as a 1 ^st Lieutenant. He taught electronics at Air Force bases in Biloxi, MS, and Houston, TX. He then became a field engineer with Schlumberger Oil Well Services and moved into the position of district manager before being transferred to Pensacola. When oil production in this area slowed, Mike left Schlumberger and joined the Charles York Insurance Agency and then the Fisher Brown Agency. When not at work, he could be found on a golf course or tennis court.

Mike served his community as president of the Independent Insurers of Pensacola, president of the Speech and Hearing Board of Baptist Hospital, and president of SubWest Rotary Club where he was twice awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship. He served as an elder in First Presbyterian Church, engaging in many church activities and especially enjoying the Tuesday morning Men's Bible Breakfast where his stories (some of them almost true), became legendary.

Always he valued the love and fellowship of family and friends. A private memorial service will be held.
