Obituary

Mildred Crisler Jones, 96, passed from this life on Friday, January 5, 2024.

She was born on June 30, 1927, in Town Creek, AL, to Hurley and Mable Crisler. Her childhood was spent on a farm in Phil Campbell, AL, where she developed values of hard work, loving family support, and service to others. Following her graduation from Phil Campbell High School in 1945, Mildred attended a year of business school. She married her high school sweetheart John P. Jones in 1947, celebrating 73 years of marriage and rearing four children together.

Mildred gladly accepted her challenging role as a Navy wife. After 30 years of frequent moves, she and J. P. settled in Gulf Breeze, FL in 1967. Mildred was always involved with her children's school activities, sports, and scouting. She was a gracious hostess, well-known for her home-cooked meals and delicious desserts.

Other special interests included growing beautiful flowers, playing games with family and friends, and of course, always providing a loving welcome for her growing number of grandchildren.

Although having a busy life, Mildred's first priority was faithful service to God. She worshiped with the East Hill church of Christ for 50+ years, teaching children's Bible classes and providing loving attention to numerous elderly members.

Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, J. P. Jones; daughter, Susan Adams; parents, Hurley and Mable Crisler; sisters, Louise Roberts and Laverne Jones; as well as her brothers, Charles and Glenn Crisler.

She is survived by her daughters, Paulette Brown (William) of Huntsville, AL and Carol Kearley (Ken) of Temple Terrace, FL; son, Art Jones (Wanda) of Cantonment, FL; grandchildren, Emily Stevens (Chuck), Mark Brown (Audra), Rebekah Latta (Richard), Adam Kearley (Johanna), Michael Kearley (Irene), Benjamin Adams, Teri Long (Andrew), Talisha Parker (Tremayne), and Matthew Jones; and 16 wonderful great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Mark Brown, Adam Kearley, Benjamin Adams, Matthew Jones, Michael Kearley, and Ken Kearley.

Visitation will be held from 11:45am until a Funeral Service begins at 12:45pm Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

The family is especially indebted to Mildred's caregivers, Lori, Sandra, and Lisa, who provided loving and attentive care during the last three years of her life. She found special pleasure in the frequent visits of her dear friend and neighbor, Sue.
