IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Minnie M.
Baker
February 2, 1927 – February 10, 2025
Minnie Morrison Baker, 98, formerly of Great Falls, SC, died Monday, February 10, 2025, at Azalea Trace Health Care Facility in Pensacola, FL.
Minnie was born February 2, 1927, in Great Falls, SC and was the daughter of the late, Smith Andrew Morrison and Mamie Sue Nelson Morrison. On April 12, 1943, Minnie married her High School sweetheart, Edward Ralph Baker. Ed joined the Navy following his graduation two months later and left to serve in the Pacific until the end of World War II. After the conclusion of the war, and with considerable encouragement from Minnie, Ed took advantage of the GI Bill, enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering program at Clemson Agricultural College and in 1950 became the first person in his family to graduate from college. Minnie followed Ed in his professional career, first in Danville, VA, then Canton, OH and Greenville, SC before joining the space program at George Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL in 1958 where he worked until his retirement. Until Ed retired, Minnie worked as a secretary to the founding partners of Reed-Mullins and Associates, an architectural firm in Huntsville. She and Ed enjoyed playing Bridge with friends and work associates. This love of cards led to many hours of teaching and playing Rook with her grandchildren.
Minnie and Ed were faithful members of University Baptist Church in Huntsville, AL. Minnie taught Sunday School for Middle and High School girls, and Ed taught a Deaf Sunday School class and interpreted the sermon for the deaf members of the church. They both sang in the choir. When Ed retired, they moved to Lillian, AL to be close to their grandchildren and enjoy their activities. They became active members of First Baptist Church, joining the choir and Singing Seniors and traveling with the choir and senior group at the church.
Minnie is preceded in death by her parents; her baby daughter, Marsha Suann and son, Edward Ralph Baker III; and her husband, Edward Ralph Baker, Jr.
She is survived by one son, Steven Baker (Mary) of Pensacola, FL; two grandchildren, Jeff (Kelly) of Hoover, AL and Jeremy (Rebecca) of Frisco, TX; and four great grandchildren, Kathryn and Jacob of Hoover AL, Jackson and Brooks of Frisco TX.
