Mitzi Faye Maddux, 74, of Milton, FL passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, after a valiant battle against colon cancer.

Mitzi was born on July 13, 1952, in Bethany, MO to her proud parents, Benton and Oleta Crabtree. Mitzi graduated from South Harris High School, in Bethany, MO and shortly thereafter moved to Pensacola, FL to be with her sister, Carolyn. Mitzi attended Pensacola Junior College, where she earned her associates degree and then went on to attend the University of West Florida, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in management. All this time, she worked full-time jobs. Mitzi first met her future husband, LCDR Richard “Dick” Maddux, while she was working at Monsanto and going to school. In July 1978, Dick and Mitzi were married in the backyard of his parents’ home in beautiful Colorado. Dick’s friend, the county judge, performed the ceremony. Their honeymoon was in a mountain cabin.

After Dick’s retirement from the US Navy, they moved to Houma, LA where Dick got a job as a pilot for Texaco Oil and Mitzi worked as a customer service agent for Blue Cross. A year in the swamps was enough, so they moved back to Milton, FL, where Dick found employment and Mitzi found a good job at Armstrong Hunt. Mitzi became good friends with the president of the company as she was with so many people. The company decided to move back north, so Mitzi found a job as an office manager at Sacred Heart Hospital where she worked for over 20 years. Dick got a job as a pilot for Continental Airlines, which allowed both of them to visit the US, Mexico, London, Paris, etc. While Dick was flying, Mitzi took up the hobby of cats. She loved cats and everyone knew it. She had six outdoor cats and one indoor cat.

Mitzi is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Tommy Crabtree.

Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, LCDR Richard “Dick” Maddux; her sister, Carolyn Hall (Bo); nephew, Bradley; as well as many relatives in Bethany, MO.

A visitation will be held from 11:30am until a funeral service begins at 12:00noon on Monday, September 28, 2026, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Chaplain Jim Dietz officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
