Monroe C. Slaughter, Jr., 83, of Pensacola, FL passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Monroe was a native of Mobile, AL and has resided in Tensaw, AL most of his life. He was a retired Foreman with the Santa Rosa Island Authority. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the European Theater enlisting in the US Army and also serving in the US Army Air Corp. He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church, Past Commander and life member of the VFW, American Legion Post # 0188 and member of the Blackshire Hunting Club. He also served as an honorary deputy with the Baldwin County Sherriffs Office. Monroe is preceded in death by his parents, Monroe C. Slaughter, Sr. and Thelma Hall Slaughter. Survivors include his lifetime loving friend, Myra Lawrence; sister, Thelma Mitchell (Ed) of Tampa, FL; two nephews, Robert and David Mitchell. Visitation will be held 4-6pm Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Graveside Service will be held 11:00am Friday, April 8, 2011 at Bayview Memorial Park with Rev. Ken Griffin officiating. Pallbearers will be Billy Hual, Charlie Rudd, Gene Williamson, Randy Sanders, Mike Goldsby, Jerry Taylor, Robert Mitchell and David Mitchell Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Blackshire Hunting Club. The family would like to thank the staff at the Specialty Center of Pensacola and the CC unit of Baptist Hospital. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
