Obituary

William Richard McCurley, 68, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016 in San Antonio, TX from a lengthy illness. He was born on November 3, 1947 in Crestview, FL to Felton and Dethlaene (Haskell) McCurley.


William grew up in Ensley, FL and graduated from Tate High School in Gonzalez, FL in 1965. After high school he joined the United States Air Force where he trained and worked in the Telecommunications field obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He also received numerous awards and certificates. After serving 21 years he continued his profession doing Government contracting and Civil Service until he retired at the age of 62.


Richard was married to his loving spouse, Phyllis (Odle) McCurley for 28 years until his death.


He is survived by Phyllis and daughters; Christine McCurley and Shannon McCurley (Ken ) of Colorado Springs, CO; granddaughter, Shaunah Drake age 9; step-daughter, Jennifer McCullough of Pensacola, FL; a sister, Faye Brewer (George) of Pensacola, FL; two brothers, Michael Dean McCurley (Bea) of
O Fallon, IL and Larry H. McCurley (Ronda) of Milton, FL along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.


Richard was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Frances Morrical; brother, Edward and two infant siblings, Charles and Shirley Ann.


Visitation will be held at 9:30am Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with services beginning at 10:30am. Pastor Jim Locke and Pastor Patrick Mobley of Hillcrest Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full Military Honors.


In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association for studies in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
