IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Muriel Jeanne
Franz
December 19, 1922 – February 13, 2021
Muriel Jeanne Franz, 98, of Pensacola, FL., passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021.
Muriel Jeanne Franz was born December 19, 1922 in Drumright, OK to John Albert Uden and Jual Mae Payne Uden. The family moved to Chicago where she was educated in the Chicago schools and Northwestern University. She earned her degree in psychology in 1943. It was in Chicago that she met her husband, Richard J. ("Dick") Franz, who was on active duty in the U.S. Navy. The couple then moved to Washington, D.C, while Dick continued military duty overseas. The letters exchanged during the war enriched their love, appreciation and understanding of each other. This became the foundation of a loving partnership of 67 years. It is only natural to write of them both, for the family was her love.
The Franz family grew to include 2 children, John Dougla s and Marcia Jeanne. In 1958, the family moved to Pensacola as Dick was involved with the startup of the Cyanamid Fibers Division with the Santa Rosa plant. They joined Trinity Presbyterian Church, where Jeanne shared her talents as an elementary Sunday School teacher, choir member, and Girl Scout leader. Jeanne continued her interest in music with Dick as they both participated in the Pensacola Oratorio Society (later the Choral Society of Pensacola). A talented flutist, Jeanne played at church and once, for friend's weddings.
Jeanne occasionally became quite the inspired poet. After a small holiday gathering with Doug and Kathy ended with a homemade red, white and blue cake, she was inspired to write an "Ode to the Memorial Day Cake." Another inspiration came from chasing down one of those ugly tree bugs. She penned several whimsical poems to various bugs.
The nurses and aides at the Blake would always comment on her sweet and appreciative words. However, be sure she gets her paper so she can do the crossword puzzle. (Have to keep the mind sharp!)
Doug mentioned 3 qualities that would describe his mother. Creative, kind and a faithful spiritual woman. We have been blest – till we meet again.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Barrancas National Cemetery.
