Myrtle L. Gibbs, 82, of Pensacola, FL slipped away from us on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 into the loving arms of our heavenly Father. She was born on May 16, 1930 in Tampa, FL to Harvey and Nancy Glass. She moved to Pensacola in 1955 where she worked for Acme Fast Freight and the L&N Railroad. She soon met and married the love of her life, Bennie M. Gibbs. Together they had five children. They operated several service stations from 1957-1973. She was very active on numerous committees at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church and later at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Sacred Heart Hospital for several years and later became employed there as the telephone operator on the midnight shifts. She retired from Sacred Heart in 1998. After that, she enjoyed being a homemaker and the world's best wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Nancy Glass; sister, Norma Rocamora; and a brother, Charles Glass. Survivors include her loving husband of 55 years, Ben Gibbs; four sons, Dennis Gibbs (Kaye) of Eufaula, AL, Harvey Gibbs (Kelli), Robert Gibbs and Cameron Gibbs (Tracy); daughter, Julie Bickerstaff (Daniel); brother, Jimmie Glass of Tampa, FL; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, with one on the way (any day now!). Visitation will be held 2-4pm Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Graveside Service will be held 2:00pm Monday, November 5, 2012 at North Creek Cemetery in Florala, AL with Pastor Randy Holtz officiating. The family would like to thank, the Pulmonary and Oncology Doctors at Sacred Heart Hospital, the nursing staff in ICU, PCU and St. Catherine's, especially her nurses Katie and Kristen on St. Catherine's. We will never forget your beautiful prayers with mom.
