Obituary

Nancy Morrison Nesvik, 67, of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, July 19, 2024. Nancy bravely endured a yearlong battle with cancer.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Rives Morrison.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Kent; sons, Brent, Greg, and Doug; daughter-in-law, Courtney (Rome) Nesvik; grandson, Elliott, and her father, Dr. Richard D. Morrison.

Nancy was born on November 15, 1956 in St. Louis, MO. She grew up in Webster Groves, a suburb of St. Louis. After attending Webster Groves High School, Nancy obtained a bachelor's degree in art education in 1978 from Central Methodist College. She then began working as a graphic artist in St. Louis. It was there that she met her future husband of 40 years, Kent, and where they started their family. Nancy and her family moved to Pensacola, FL in 2000.

Everyone that was fortunate enough to meet Nancy knew how kind and caring of a person she was. Nancy amazed everyone with her creativity, talent, and unwavering energy. Nancy was a devoted wife and mother who cherished being able to raise her sons at home. She shared her talents and creativity by volunteering for various community and church activities including, the St. Louis Book Fair, children summer camps, Cub Scouts, and special projects at her sons' elementary school.

Nancy always found time to channel her passion and creativity as an artist.  After her sons grew older, Nancy worked as a silk flower designer with Celebrations.  She designed and painted a number of murals throughout the city including for Blue Angels Elementary school, doctors' offices, and in Trinity Presbyterian church. Nancy was actively involved in the Pensacola art community as a member of the National League of American Pen Women since 2010 and the Art Study Club. She received numerous art awards for her work. In 2021, she became president of the local NLAPW branch. Her artistic achievements and leadership were recognized in 2023 when she received the Pen Woman of the Year for the state of Florida.

Many people knew Nancy for her creative Christmas cards. Her mother had begun a family Christmas card tradition, which Nancy continued starting in 1989.  She started with drawings of her boys sent out to family and friends, and this later transitioned to cards representing unique events and locations for commercial sale. Two in particular were her "blue roof" card of Santa flying over Ivan-damaged Pensacola in 2004 and her "Graffiti Bridge" card of Santa's sleigh stuck under graffiti bridge in honor of first responders. She looked forward to sharing her cards as a way of keeping in touch with those she loved.

Nancy was "all in" with everything that she pursued. We were so fortunate to be the recipients of her love and talents.

Nancy's life will be celebrated with a service held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Trinity Presbyterian Church. The service will be livestreamed at https://youtube.com/live/GUfX3bmafGY
