Nell is at home with the two she loved most, her Savior Jesus Christ and her husband Reed. Ending her sojourn here peacefully on January 31, 2014, Nell had just celebrated her 85 birthday. Predeceasing her were her beloved husband of 62 years, Dr. William Reed Bell, who passed away on July 28, 2013; her parents, Harry Bartholomew Hamm and Wilma Ruth (Palmer) Hamm; her sister, Francis and brother, Gary; and, her granddaughter, Blair Bush. Nell is survived by her six children, Rev. William R. Bell, Jr. (Jo), Mitzi Peters (Peter), Terry Bush (Scott), Former Florida Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Bell (Victoria), Lance Bell (Sherry) and Brian Bell (Sharon); 20 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and her brother, Harry B. Hamm, Jr. Born in Birmingham, AL, Nell graduated Pensacola High School ('47). A fully-devoted wife and mother, she lived for her family. Nell supported her husband in his pediatric practice and nurtured her children well. She loved playing tennis and made sure the family enjoyed outdoor activities and travel. In the late 70's, foreseeing the demise of the traditional family and horrified about the slaughter of unborn children with legalization of abortion on demand, Nell was driven to become politically active. She began working with the Republican Party and started the local chapter of the Florida Federation of Women for Responsible Legislation. Serving as WRL's statewide president, Nell worked with Eagle Forum and others to defeat the ERA. She also worked to start Our Mother's Home, a maternity home for unwed mothers. Nell loved God and found life in His Word. Her family invites you to join them in celebrating her life with a Visitation 3:00pm until a Funeral Service to begin at 4:00pm on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd, Pensacola, FL 32504. The family requests that any donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House of NW Florida, Sacred Heart Children's Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
