January 19, 1995 – February 21, 2023
IT2 Nicholas "Nic" Dalton Schellin, 28, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, in Hampton Roads, VA, while serving as a Petty Officer Second Class, Information Systems Technician, aboard CVN 69, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Nic is the son of Retired LtCol Thomas A. Schellin, USMC and Susan Schellin. He was born in New Bern, NC, into a military family, Nic travelled the world until settling down in Pensacola, FL, where he graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School in 2014, then obtained a bachelor's degree in English from the University of West Florida in August 2019. Nic had a strong desire to be a part of the military, and in November of 2020 Nic enlisted in the Navy. After completing Boot Camp at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, IL; and Tech School at Naval Air Station Pensacola Corry Station; he was assigned to CVN 69, in Norfolk, VA. Nic enjoyed spicy food, and was a voracious reader. His favorite moments were spent on or near the water. He never met a stranger and was always the first person to have a quirky or funny comment.
In addition to his parents, Nic is survived by grandparents, Jane and Billy Green, Hanna and Winfrid Schellin; brother, Austin; sister, Heidi; adored nephews, Lucas and Thomas; as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. His sudden death has left everyone who knew him utterly bereft by his passing.
Graveside Service will be held 2:30pm Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Barrancas National Cemetery with Pastor Mary Peterson officiating and full US Navy honors. For those who would like to attend, a funeral cortege will depart Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL at 2:00pm sharp.
