Ocie Clayton Mills, age 78, died on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Covenant Hospice in Pensacola, FL after a lengthy illness. He was born on July 9, 1934 in Holley, FL, the son of Burton and Vella. Ocie grew up in the Florida panhandle and served his country during the Korean conflict with the U.S. Navy. He married Betsy (Sunnarborg) Mills on August 10, 1956, and they had two children, Carey and Julie. With incredible grace and generosity, Ocie and Betsy also opened their home and hearts to raise two nephews and a niece, Bruce and Ken and Patsy, who lost their parents when they were young. Ocie had two places that he called home Holley, FL, and his and Betsy's beloved Spider Lake property in northern Minnesota. He owned and operated several businesses, including a gas station, a resort, a bar and lounge and a construction company in Florida before a massive heart attack drove him into early retirement. He was a Christian, a student of the Bible and a passionate spokesperson for the United States Constitution. He ran for a legislative position in Florida, testified before Congress in Washington, was interviewed on CBS's 60 Minutes, founded the Constitutional Network, and worked tirelessly to educate others about the rights and responsibilities of being a U.S. citizen. What his family and friends will miss most about this man however, is his charming hospitality and his love of conversation. He welcomed friends and stranger into his home; and didn't hesitate to help someone in need with cash, a warm bed or a meal. Preceded in death by his parents, Burton and Vella; wife, Betsy (Sunnarborg) Mills; sister, Yvonnie Hinton (Thomas David); niece Patsy Sunnarborg.
