IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Oran H.
Baughn
November 20, 1935 – October 14, 2025
Oran H. Baughn, 89, of Pensacola, Florida passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Oran (affectionately known as "Grampy" to his grandchildren) was born in Montgomery, Alabama on November 20, 1935, to Otha Huel Baughn and Louise Evans Baughn. In 1941, he and his family moved to Pensacola, Florida where he lived for the remainder of his life.
Oran held many fond memories of growing up in Pensacola, such as spending time with friends at the Bayview Park Clubhouse, skating on the freshly paved streets of East Hill during youth nights, racing and tinkering with motorcycles, and enjoying the kind of close-knit community where families felt safe leaving their doors and windows open on warm summer evenings. He attended Pensacola High School where his sweetheart, Mary Ann "Bobbi" Godwin (known to most as "Bobbi" and to her grandchildren as "Grammy") was also a student. Bobbi met Oran when he gave her and her friends a ride to Sanders Beach, known then as "The Den". Before graduating high school, Oran joined the U.S. Army and was sent to South Korea in 1953 as the Korean War was ending. While in South Korea, his mother sent him packages of his favorite foods from home.
Oran and Bobbi were married on December 23, 1955, while they were both on military leave. Oran retired from the military in February of 1956 and in 1957 they welcomed their first child, Robin. In 1958, their second daughter, Tami, was born. Next came Lisa in 1962, and finally Kristi was born in 1966. Oran cherished his role as father of four girls and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren cherish countless special memories with Oran — family holidays at Disney World, sleepovers that always included dips in the hot tub and his famous homemade french fries, cheerful birthday calls from him and Grammy (complete with their rendition of the birthday song), and his proud presence at school plays, graduations, and countless other milestones. Nothing mattered more to Oran than family. He was intentional about keeping close to each loved one, always making time for calls, visits, and shared moments.
Having grown up in Pensacola, Oran also had many long-standing friendships and will be missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed golfing, travelling, seeing movies on the big screen, learning about space, and spending time with his best friend, Bobbi. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, and he loved going to the Coffee Cup on Cervantes, the National Naval Aviation Museum, and Jerry's Drive-In.
Oran was an entrepreneur throughout his life. As a young boy, he held a variety of jobs — selling stamps and seeds around his neighborhood, delivering Watkins products, mowing lawns, and throwing newspapers, which he often said was his favorite job. He delivered 144 papers twice a day, waking up at 3 a.m. to fold them at J's Bakery, where the milkman would treat him to chocolate milk, and J would give him a donut. At age 14, Oran worked as a stock boy at Friendly Service Grocery. On Saturdays, he could often be found helping his father at Baughn Alignment, the family business.
After several years as an insurance claims adjuster, Oran decided to open his own business. In 1975, he founded Baughn Enterprises, followed by Baughn Renovations in 1982. Oran was deeply passionate about his work and proud of the career he built. Over the years, he was fortunate to work alongside several family members at Baughn Renovations, including his son-in-law, Randy Gares (Robin Gares), who continues to uphold the business and carry forward Oran's legacy.
Oran is preceded in death by his parents, Otha Huel Baughn (d.1976) and Louise Evans Baughn (d.1991), and his sister, Patricia Baughn Jones (d. 2025).
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann "Bobbi" Godwin Baughn of Pensacola, Florida and his four daughters who also all live in Pensacola: Robin Gares (Randy Gares), Tami Cook (Everett Cook), Lisa Bond (William Bond), and Kristi Baughn (Geoff Layne). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Ashley Ard, Phillip Davidson Jr. (Megan Dunnavant) Jordan Gares (Carly Loss), Molly Gares (Austin Gartman), Connor Bond, Campbell Gares (Morgan Scarborough), Mary Kim (Jae Won Kim), Caroline Bond, and Annabelle Layne. He also leaves behind many great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends who loved him deeply.
Funeral Service will be held 10:00am Monday, October 20, 2025, at First United Methodist Church, with a reception to follow. A funeral procession will depart at 12:15pm for a graveside committal service at Bayview Memorial Park. Oran will be buried next to his parents.
Pallbearers will be his sons-in-law, Randy Gares, Everett Cook, William Bond, and Geoff Layne; his grandsons, Jordan Gares, Phillip Davidson Jr., Connor Bond, and Campbell Gares.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to participate in the Pensacola Bay Area Walk to End Alzheimer's on December 7 or make a contribution online at www.alz.org to support the Alzheimer's Association.
The family wishes to thank all who shared their love, friendship, and kindness with Oran over the years. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
