Obituary

Patricia "Pat" Brady Bernhard, 87, of Pensacola, FL, passed peacefully surrounded by her four adoring children on Monday, December 4, 2023.

Pat was born on October 15, 1936, in Long Island, NY to William and Dorothea Roach Brady, Jr., she remained in Long Island until she was sixteen. After her father's passing, they moved to Pensacola to be near other family members. Pat attended and graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School. She then went on to Florida State University where she was involved in student government, the campus newspaper, and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She continued her education at Loyola University and Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in New Orleans.

Pat met her husband, Robert Bernhard, Jr., while in New Orleans and together raised their four children there. In addition to raising their four children, she was a successful businesswoman, managing gift shops at Hotel Dieu Hospital and East Jefferson General Hospital. She went on to open and manage her own gift shop, Cloud 9 Gifts and Goodies. Pat's hobbies included playing bridge and golf at the New Orleans Country Club. Pat loved the revelry of Mardi Gras and was a member of Krewe of Iris. She socialized and danced the night away at many carnival balls.

After moving back to Pensacola, she joined the Krewe of Wrecks to continue her love of Mardi Gras and hosted many festive gatherings at her home on Pensacola Beach. She also enjoyed volunteering her time at the Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum. Pat will most fondly be remembered for her joy of life and her love and generosity toward all people, whether family, friend, or stranger. Wherever she went, she brought love, laughter, gifts, and excitement. As one of her grandchildren poignantly said, "I prayed when Jesus welcomes Mumsie into heaven, all of her people will be at one large table since she was always the best at including everyone and making sure everyone had a friend!"

Rather than tears and sadness, Pat wanted her family and friends to celebrate her life by sharing good food, drinks, music, dancing, and happy memories!

Pat is preceded in death by her parents, William Joseph Brady, Jr., and Dorothea Roach Brady; and her husband of 37 years, Robert Bernhard, Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory include, her four children, Lisa Bernhard (Joe), Bunny Bernhard Hudson (Kevin), Robert Bernhard, III (Debbie), and Peggy Bernhard McDuffie (Scott); two brothers, William Joseph Brady, Jr. (Debbie) and Thomas Michael Brady (Marty); nine grandchildren, Madeleine Patricia Thornhill, Katherine Julia Thornhill, William Walter Hudson, Austin Wallace Hudson, Robert Connor Bernhard (Kara), Meredith Elise Bernhard Hernandez (David), Abigail Ann Bernhard, Alison Brady McDuffie Strain (Ben), and Margaret Daniels McDuffie Meineke (Jack); as well as three great grandchildren.
