IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia A.
Harrington
April 26, 1948 – January 10, 2025
After a life filled with joy and adventure, Patricia Anne (Harrell) Harrington, 76, of Plant City, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 10, 2025, at her home in Pensacola, FL, surrounded by loved ones.
Patty was born April 26, 1948, in Plant City, FL, to John David and Elizabeth Harrell. While completing her degree in Education at the University of West Florida, she met and was then married to Douglas Harrington of Gallipolis, OH in August of 1969, where she began her adventures as a Naval Aviator's wife.
She spent 32 years as a teacher in Ohio and North Carolina in both Elementary and Middle School, with a focus on Gifted Education. In 1984, she earned her master's degree in Gifted Education from The Ohio State University, earning Phi Kappa Phi honors. Her love for her Buckeyes is unmatched.
Patty had a deep love of music, beginning early in life when she became a talented pianist at a young age. Later in life, when impressed by a young harpist (who was also one of her students), she decided she would try and master the instrument. Her talent led to many requests for her to play for local churches and hospice homes in Pensacola. Heavily involved in her church, she was an active member of both the Chancel and Handbell choirs.
Patty was always up for a new interest or challenge which included joining Doug in his love of riding his Harley Davidson. Many road trips together led her to deciding she would be better off commanding her own "hog", where she typically led the duo on her Fatboy.
When Patty and Doug retired to 'where it all started' in Pensacola, their love for the Navy led them to joining the volunteer team at the National Naval Aviation Museum, leading tours, sharing stories with visitors, and enjoying friendships with other veterans and families. This led her and Doug to volunteering on the Blue Angels flightline for weekly practice sessions where they assisted audiences of thousands in learning more about the famous flight team.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John David and Elizabeth Harrell; sister, Mary Jeanne Gilbert and brother, Francis Harrell.
She is survived by her husband, Doug; her son, Doug Harrington, Jr. (Mary Katherine) of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Kelly Hodges (David) of Raleigh, NC; her five grandchildren, Lindsay Hartings (Seth), Madison Harrington (fiancé Bailey Pope), William Harrington, Caitlin Hodges, and Jacob Hodges; great granddaughter, Adalynn Hartings; as well as her brother, Richard Harrell (Carol) of Lakeland, FL, and her sister, Ruth Miller (Leon) of Lakeland, FL.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am until a Memorial Service begins at 11:00am, Friday, January 24, 2025, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL 23504, with Rev. Dana Brady, officiating.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the Hematology/Oncology doctors and staff at Baptist Medical Group, especially Dr. Syed Jafri who cared for Patty since 2020. A special thank you as well to Emerald Coast Hospice Care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Patty's life to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1394 E Nine Mile Rd., Pensacola, FL 32514; The National Naval Aviation Museum at NAS Pensacola, Naval Aviation Museum Foundation or one's favorite charity.
