IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia M.
Morres
February 18, 1946 – April 25, 2022
Patricia Louise (Martin) Morres won her battle with Alzheimer's by never losing her smile or love of music and her ability to recognize her loved ones. Surrounded by the love of her family and the compassionate staff of Vitas Hospice Care, Pat breathed her last on April 25, 2022, in Rockledge, FL.
A Philadelphia native, Pat had a love of sports and tremendous pride in her Irish heritage. In her early 20s after becoming a first-generation college graduate from West Chester State College someone recommended Pat try teaching. Leaving her job at the Federal Reserve she found her calling and taught for over forty years. "Morres" as her students affectionately called her, relished her vocation as a teacher and sponsored the school newspaper and yearbook for several years. With decades as an educator in Escambia and Santa Rosa county, Pat had a heart for the marginalized students. In addition to her role as an English, Journalism and Speech teacher, Pat taught night school to immigrants and adults seeking their high school diploma. In the twilight of her career, she worked with troubled students encouraging literacy and cultivating student achievement. Career highlights include Teacher of the year, reception of the Gold Medallion award from the Florida Scholastic Press Association and serving as a pioneer in distance learning being among the first to utilize remote technology in Northwest Florida.
For as much as Pat loved teaching, she loved her family more. A devoted mother to her children and affectionately known as Nana to her seven grandchildren. Nana never missed a recital, game, performance or the chance to make memories with her family. Pat embraced the gift of life and loved all types of music managing to enjoy countless big-name performers that included The Beatles, Elvis, Tina Turner, Madonna, Garth Brooks, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Chesney and Taylor Swift to name a few. Pat didn't let an opportunity for adventure pass her by and relished the opportunity to spend time with her family and husband of forty years, David Morres. She loved traveling and managed to work on a dude ranch, travel by horse in the back country of Yellowstone and visit Ireland in addition to countless State and National Parks.
Pat was a fixture at St. Ann Catholic Parish in Gulf Breeze for decades where she was as a lector, choir member, cantor, and aide in the Discovery School always willing to serve wherever needed. Her faith was her anchor and she remained faithful to the end astounding the hospice chaplain with her ability to pray the rosary even in her final weeks.
Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, Sophie (Conway) Martin Howell and James Martin.
She is survived by her husband, David Paul Morres; her children, Shannon Jeffries and Kristina Talbot (Daniel); as well as her grandchildren, Alyxandra, Sophia, and Mollee Kate Jeffries, Katherine, Jeffrey, Andrew and Michael Talbot; brother and sister-in-law, Carole and Robert Frazier; nephews, Paul (Shawna) and Robert (Lindsey) Frazier; along with several dear cousins whom she loved as siblings.
