CPO Paul Grassinger, USN (ret.), 90, of Pensacola, FL passed away Saturday, November 30, 2019.
Paul was born on January 15, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA to Paul and Barbara Grassinger. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1948 and served as a Parachute Rigger on land and at sea during the Korean War and peace time until retirement as a Chief Petty Officer in 1969. He worked for the US Postal Service until a second retirement in 1990. With his wife, Sylvia "Pennies", they left Maryland to live the retired life in Pensacola, FL. Despite leaving Pittsburgh, PA in 1948, he remained a loyal and enthusiastic Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was catholic by faith and a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Paul's happiness is complete as he is now joined for eternity with his wife in the hands of God.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sylvia "Pennies" Grassinger who died in 2005.
Survivors include his two daughters, Janet Grassinger of Pasadena, MD and Joanne Westwood of Bay Minette, AL; two grandsons, Jason Kolbe (Liz) and Daniel Westwood (Taylor); as well as two great-grandchildren, Kadence Kolbe and Hudson Kolbe.
Funeral Mass will be held 12:30pm Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full Navy honors.
The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff of Community Hospice.
