Obituary

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Paul A. Young Jr. 97, made his transition November 19, 2017, and is now with the love of his life, his wife of 72 years, Lorna Belle.

He will be missed by his children, Paul Jr. (Peggy), Jeanette Lee (Gene), and Marilyn Shugart (Ken); his grandchildren, Dana Young, John Paul Young (Kelsey), Elizabeth Riegle (James), and Meagan Jenks (Jeremy) and great-grandchildren, Luke, Annie and Lydia Frentsas, Isla June and Everly Ann Jenks, and Sebastian Beck. Also surviving him are his nieces, Cheryl Rowlands (David) and Linda Green, and nephews James Young (Annemiek), Michael Young (Deborah), and Robert Schwenk (Anita), as well as adopted daughter, Anne Talley (Parks).

Paul was predeceased by his wife, Lorna; his brothers, Ronald and Richard Young; his sister, Dolly Goodling, and his parents, Paul Sr. and Clara Young.

Paul was born in York, PA on March 22, 1920. He was an athlete, having quarterbacked his West York Bulldogs team, and was a State wrestling champion. He remained an avid Bulldog and Penn State fan his entire life. Paul served 12 years as a member of the West York District School Board. He retired from the York Corporation in 1982 and he and Lorna spent many wonderful years traveling the country, and spending time with their children/grandchildren. Paul was a faithful member of St. Stephens United Church of Christ for 60 years where he served as deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and choir member. Paul was a veteran of WWII and a proud member of the 3 rd Battalion, one of the units that fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of Zeredatha Mason Lodge #0451 and sang with the Tall Cedars for many years. Paul was a good and honorable man, a life-long Democrat, and a man who loved life, laughed and sang at the drop of a hat, lived his faith and touched many lives. He will be missed daily by his family and many friends.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, December 2 nd 2017 at St. Stephens United Church of Christ in York, PA.
