Obituary

Pearlie Mae Hendrieth, 92, of Pensacola, FL passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023.

Pearlie Mae was born in Covington County, located in the south-central portion of Alabama, just south of the city of Andalusia. Pearlie graduated from the formerly segregated Booker T. Washington High School, in Pensacola, FL and participated in track and field. In 1949, she graduated from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), a historically Black university in Tallahassee, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education (K-12). While a student at FAMU, Pearlie was a member of the basketball team. She furthered her education and acquired a Master of Science degree in Education from Auburn University in Auburn, AL.

Upon completing her education, Pearlie dedicated over 50 years of service as an educator of excellence, within the Escambia County School District at Montclair and Spencer Bibbs Elementary Schools. As a well-rounded athlete, she participated in sports, such as baseball, taught swim classes and later served as a little league coach for the City of Pensacola's Recreation Department. Pearlie enjoyed the simple pleasures in life such as family, cooking and sewing. She taught literacy courses, Adult Education, was a certified minister and an influential prayer warrior. Her vigorous faith and unwavering belief in God, was reinforced with her involvement with the Emanuel Baptist Church of Pensacola, FL, under the direction of Reverend John Rhoden. Subsequently, Pearlie later became a devoted member of the Pensacola First Assembly of God Pentecostal Church until her passing. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 91 (KJV), "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."

Pearlie is preceded in death by her mother, Sallie M. Jackson; brother, Fred Lee Jackson, Sr.; daughters, Lillia Hendrieth Carvin, Patricia Hendrieth Richardson and Paula Jean Hendrieth; as well as her granddaughter, LaNita Byrd-Williams.

Pearlie is survived by her son, Robert L. Hendrieth, Jr. (Helen) of Tallahassee, FL; nephews, Fred Lee Jackson, Jr. of New Brunswick, NJ, William T. Hendrieth (Jean) of Shalimar, FL, Gordon K. Hendrieth (Linda) of Pensacola, FL and Algie Hendrieth (Angela) of Tallahassee, FL; three grandsons, Christopher Shawn Montgomery (Sarah) of Pensacola, FL, Matthew L. Hendrieth (Stephanie) of Nashville, TN and Xavier J. "Ziggy" Wilson of Pensacola, FL; four granddaughters, Tamiko L. Hendrieth, Tunisha Pride, Crystal Williams (Eric, Sr.) of Tallahassee, FL and Latosha Flowers (Reginald) of Miami, FL; nine great-grandchildren, Christian Montgomery, Cayden Montgomery of Pensacola, FL, Khaleb Banks, Khaiden Allen, Khamore Allen, Skylar Williams and Eric Williams, Jr. of Tallahassee, FL; Kylie Hendrieth and London Hendrieth of Nashville, TN; three great great-grandchildren, Koa Wilson, Kai Wilson and Zian Wilson all of Pensacola, FL; one great niece, Sharonica L. Hendrieth-Brown of Tampa, FL; one great nephew, Jordon J. Hendrieth (Keh'ara) of Pembroke Pines, FL; two bonus grandchildren, Brenda Brown and Derrick Holmes; three bonus great-grandchildren, QuaTonia Davis, Derrick Holmes, Jr., Quanterius Dennis; as well as one bonus great-great grandson, Quanterius Dennis. Jr., all of Tallahassee, FL; special friend, Athena Wooten of Pensacola, FL and a host of extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held 5-7pm Friday, June 23, 2023, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL. Funeral Service will be held 11:00am Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Pensacola First Assembly of God, 4301 Bayou Blvd., Pensacola, FL, with Dr. David Scruggs officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
