Philip M. Gilgrist (Phil), of Pensacola, FL passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital on Wednesday, April 20, 2016.
Phil was born in Indianapolis, IN on August 1, 1932 and moved to Peru, IN when he was 5 years old. He was very active in school activities and played on the Basketball, Football and Golf teams. He attended Butler University and then transferred to Indiana University. He played on the IU Golf team and graduated in 1958. He also served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955.
Phil and Nancy married Peru, IN in December of 1956. After graduating from Indiana University he had long career in the Cement and Lime industries in Sales/Marketing. His career brought numerous moves to Illinois, Washington, Minnesota, Georgia and Texas. Phil and Nancy retired to Pensacola, FL in 1995.
He was a member of Indiana University Alumni and Indiana Men's Association and Cokesbury United Methodist Church.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Louise and Myron Gilgrist; brother, Michael of Indiana, mother and father-in-law, Norma and Lewis Sharpf; brother-in-law, Allen Sharpf of Indiana and sister-in-law, Barbara Sharpf of Vancouver WA.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Lynn Engel (David) of Naperville, IL; sons, Mark of Washington, DC and Todd Gilgrist (Lisa) of Suwanne, GA; two granddaughters', Alexis and Sarah Gilgrist; brother, John Gilgrist (Caren) of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Julie Gunn (Bob) of Tipton, IN; brother-in-law, Larry Sharpf, Vancouver, WA; sister-in-law, Carol Sink (Michael) of Dallas, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed by his dear wife of 60 years, his wonderful children, precious granddaughter's, family and friends. His quick wit and deep love for all of us will stay in our hearts forever.
Special thanks to the Doctor's and Staff at Sacred Heart Hospital and the Life-Care Center of Pensacola.
Burial will be in Indiana at a later date with a private family service.
